Terms of Service
The fine print, kept short.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the What If mobile application ("the app", "we", "us"). By installing or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who can use What If
You must be at least 13 years old to use What If. If you are under the age of majority in your country, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
2. Your account
You can use What If with an email account, or anonymously in "guest mode" with reduced functionality. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe and for everything that happens under your account. Don't share your account with anyone else.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the service, or attempt to bypass usage limits.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use What If to generate, request, or share content that:
- Is illegal, hateful, or harasses another person.
- Sexualises minors or any non-consenting individual.
- Depicts real, identifiable people in defamatory, sexual, or violent ways.
- Promotes self-harm, terrorism, or violence.
- Infringes on someone else's intellectual property or privacy.
- Attempts to extract, reverse-engineer, or jailbreak the underlying AI models.
We use both automated and human moderation as needed to enforce these rules. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or termination without refund.
4. AI-generated content
What If generates fictional stories, images, and audio using AI. AI output can be inaccurate, surprising, or offensive. The app is for creative entertainment only — nothing it generates is a prediction, recommendation, or advice.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you own the prompts you write and the resulting AI output produced for you. You grant us a limited licence to host, process, and display that content as needed to operate the app for you. We do not use your prompts or outputs to train any AI model.
5. Subscriptions and payments
What If is free to download. Premium features (AI-generated images, AI narrator voices, unlimited what-ifs, and other paid features) are unlocked via an auto-renewing subscription processed through Apple's App Store.
- Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.
- The current price is shown in the app before you confirm a purchase. Prices may change; you will be notified before any increase.
- Refund requests are handled by Apple per their Media Services Terms.
- Guests cannot subscribe — you must create an account before purchasing so the entitlement stays with you across devices and reinstalls.
6. Fair-use limits
To keep the service running smoothly and prevent abuse, we may apply rate limits or daily caps on AI generation, even for Premium subscribers. If we change these limits in a material way we will let you know.
7. Intellectual property
The What If app, its design, code, and brand are owned by us and protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer any of our rights to you — you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for your personal, non-commercial use.
8. Termination
You can stop using What If at any time. You can delete your account from Profile → Account → Delete account, which permanently erases your data as described in our Privacy Policy. We may terminate or suspend your access if you violate these Terms.
9. Disclaimers
What If is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate, useful, or fit for any particular purpose.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the app will not exceed the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim arose, or US $50, whichever is greater.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located in San Francisco County, California, unless you reside in a jurisdiction whose law gives you mandatory rights to bring claims locally.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. If we make material changes we will notify you in-app or by email. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
